From creator Chad Turner, "The idea for Yoga Design Lab started while on vacation in Bali. I was seated in the back of a packed class at the well-known mecca for yoga, Yoga Barn. Looking around, all I saw was a sea of unoriginal, massed produced, solid colored yoga mats. My thinking was, there must be a way of creating a highly function product that was also aesthetically beautiful. The inspiration grew and I knew I wanted to design mats that would make more people excited about practicing yoga. So the journey began. Long story short, I sold my stuff, packed up a couple bags and moved to Bali with the goal of creating a line of yoga accessories that would inspire people around the world.
Blending fashion-forward design elements with innovative functionality and bio-renewable consciousness is key to the Yoga Design Lab approach. I had high hopes for this mat, trying to find a solution that could meet that rare space between durability and sweat management. I have tried cork mats, but I find they disintegrate quickly in hot yoga and intense practices. This one, with the built in towel, I had hoped would be able to ensure grip while removing the need for an additional towel. I was wrong. For light sweating and wetness this is fine, and I imagine for most people that is all you need. But for those of us who sweat a lot in hot settings, this mat gets slippery, and worse, gets particularly slippery when you add a towel as the towel doesn't grip to the built in towel of the matt. So you can't compensate by simply adding a towel on top. Bummed and continuing my hunt for a mat that can actually maintain grip under wet conditions. If you really sweat in hot yoga, keep looking.

I’ve needed a yogitoe for YEARS during my hot yoga practice because no mat I’ve tried has stayed dry enough for me not to slip. This one is perfect, just wipe it down with wet cloth at studio and let it air dry with a little bit of thieves spray and you’re good to go! I’d rinse in tub with warm water & a little white vinegar every few heavy sessions.
