Founded at the turn of the millennium, Manduka® has always been a company that put its customers and the environment above all else. Peter Sterios, an architect turned yogi, stumbled upon a simple, yet elegantly created mat that completely revolutionized the way he practiced yoga. This revelation was the inspiration for the whole Manduka yoga line.
Sterios' creation would not have been possible without the help of his generous yoga teachers. As a form of appreciation he sent a mat to many of the yoga teachers he admired including Rod Stryker, Erich Schiffmann, Victor Van Kooten, Angela Farmer, Rodney Yee, and Shiva Rea. As a traditional practice in yoga, these teachers shared these mats with their students and from there the word spread.
Manduka, derived from the Hatha Yoga Pradipika pose, Mandukasana, is named as a tribute to Sterios' yoga mentor, Shandor Remete. The delight he took in hearing the word roll of his tongue helped him solidify the faith he had in his new company. From there the joy has spread to over 35 countries worldwide.

I love this mat!! I have problems with sweaty hands and sliding, but don’t like the mats that absorb (I had the Gaiam sol for a couple of years). This one is awesome.

I love my mat .. I have been practicing yoga for exactly 1 year .. I go to 2 classes daily - typically a hot Vinyassa flow and a Yin / Restore .. The grip on the mat is awesome for my hands and feet. I will definitely be investing in a yoga mat towel asap as there was a little slippage during a really HOT class. There is definitely an odor on the mat - nothing overwhelming or foul and I noticed that after using the mat for 2 weeks the odor is subsiding. I cannot say enough good things about the my Manduka eKO Yoga Mat 71" - AND - Yoga Outlet. Next 2 purchases will be a Manduka Travel Mat and a Yoga Mat Towel, obviously they will purchased thru Yoga Outlet #happyyogi

This yoga mat is amazing. I had been using cheap mats and not only did I keep slipping, but I also had to double up my mat for certain moves to provide more cushion for my knees and hips. I decided to actually invest in a good quality product. The yoga studio I practice at uses Manduka mats so I started looking around and decided on the eKo mat. I'm so glad I did! No more slipping, and the material is so dense and comfortable! I would recommend this mat to anyone.

I bought this mat to replace the cheap one I have had for several years. This one is so much better. It was pretty sticky right out of the box and I couldn't resist practicing right away, even though the smell is really strong. I left it unrolled over a chair for a couple days and it faded pretty quick. Yes, the mat is heavy, and I will definitely be purchasing a mat strap or bag to keep it together, but I don't see this as an issue.
